Coimbatore: Coimbatore's budding athlete C Vishrutha made the city proud by winning a gold medal, setting a new meet mark in the 400 m hurdles at the 16th National Youth Athletic Championship held at the Swami Vivekanandha Stadium, Raipur on Thursday.
C Vishrutha who has been training under Vairavanathan of Genesis Sports Club here in the city has participated in the 400 mts hurdles and crossed the finish line in 01:01:81 to erase the existing record of 01:02:51 that was in the name of J Vishnu Priya who had set the record at the 2018 edition of the tournament.

Vishrutha was far ahead of the other two podium finishers who completed the race in 1:06 and 1:07 respectively. With this new meet record performance in the National Youth Athletic Championship, Vishrutha qualifies for the Asian Youth Athletic Championship to be held at Hong Kong in March 2019.
Vishrutha's coach Vairavanathan was all praise for his prodigy saying that she has been consistently winning medals in the state and national level meets, and showing a dogged determination to achieve. "It was easy for her in this Meet since she finished far ahead of the other athletes. I hope Vishrutha will be one of the strong competitors in the Asian Youth Athletic Championship."
"I am extremely happy with this performance and my dream is to win a medal for my country," exulted Vishrutha. She also added that this medal encouraged her to work hard and a gold medal at the Asian Youth Athletic championship was her next goal to achieve.

Genesis Sports Foundation's President, K Mohanraj, Vairavanathan, trainers and other club members lauded Vishrutha for her 'golden' achievement.
