TPDK stage protest in Coimbatore demanding Income Tax limit to be capped at Rs. 8 lakh

Led by the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary, K Ramakrishnan, more than 20 people participated in the protest, holding placards with slogans highlighting various demands and raising slogans.

Coimbatore: The Supreme Court has ruled that the 10 percent reservation for the economically weaker sections of the upper castes will go ahead.

As per this 10 percent reservation, the annual income for the upper-caste poor was fixed at Rs. 8 lakh as the criterion. Various political parties, organisations and the general public across the country have expressed their views for and against the verdict.

Organisations that do not support this 10 percent reservation have been questioning how the Supreme Court's statement is justified when the income tax limit in India has been fixed at Rs. 5 lakh per annum. There have also been sporadic protests demanding an income tax cap of Rs. 8 lakh in India.

The Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam members staged a protest in front of the Income Tax office on Race Course Road in Coimbatore demanding that the income tax ceiling be announced at Rs. 8 lakh.

Led by the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary, K Ramakrishnan, more than 20 people participated in the protest, holding placards with slogans highlighting various demands and raising slogans.

There was a tense atmosphere in the area for some time due to the protest by the TPDK.
