Coimbatore: Coimbatore With an additional 1,100 tonnes of garbage being dumped every day during the three days of Pongal festival in the city, the sanitation workers have cleared the extra garbage on a war footing.

Around 1,000 to 1,200 tonnes of garbage is being collected daily in all the 100 wards of Coimbatore Corporation.

Moreover, it is customary to collect more garbage than usual only during festivals like Deepavali, New Year and Pongal.

Over 1,100 tonnes of garbage has accumulated in the last three days due to Pongal festivities.

However, the sanitation workers have plunged in to the task and speeded up their work since Saturday last.

“However, in a few places, garbage remains stagnant and it will be completely removed by this evening” Corporation health officials said.

The sanitary works have been receiving plaudits for the effective implementation of garbage disposal during Pongal festivities from the city denizens.
