Forest department catches elephant in Kerala after administering sedative injection

A 75-member team of forest department doctors administered an anaesthesia injection and captured a single wild elephant in Palakkad district, which was attacking and killing a man and threatening the public.



Coimbatore: An elephant has been threatening the public for the past few months in Thoni, a hilly village near a forest area in Kerala's Palakkad district.

Sivaraman, who was recently on a walk in the area, was attacked and killed by an elephant, which has created a lot of fear and anxiety among the people of the area. The farmers say that the wild elephant has entered the agricultural fields and damaged the crops.

Hence, the forest department on behalf of the public demanded that the elephant be captured and sent into the dense forest. Following this, the forest department kept a close watch on the wild elephant.

At around 4.30 am on Sunday, the wild elephant was caught with an anesthetic injection. A 75-member team, led by forest department veterinary doctor Arun Sakhriya, was deployed to administer anaesthesia injections to the elephant.



The forest department successfully caught the wild elephant by administering an anesthetic injection and with the help of kumki elephant, took the wild elephant in a truck and took it away. According to the forest department, the captured elephant will be kept in a cage set up in the same area and trained to convert it into a kumki elephant.

The people of the area are relieved after a wild elephant, which was a threat to the public, was caught with an anaesthesia injection.
