'Renewable energy, if used to power Indian automobiles will save Rs 1 lakh crore annually' says Kasturi Rangaiyan, President of the Indian Wind Power Association

Kasturi Rangaiyan, President of the Indian Wind Power Association, said the country could save a whopping Rs. 1 lakh crore annually if the automobiles running in the country are operated using solar and wind power.

Coimbatore: All India Wind Power Association has organised a book release function titled "Mind of Wind" on the development of windmills in the city.

Kasturi Rangaiyan, President of the Indian Wind Power Association, who released the book, later spoke to reporters and briefed about the need to exploit renewable energy sources to attain energy security.

"As long as the world exists, there will be wind and Sun, so India can use such renewable energy to meet its power needs using alternative energy” he said.

Noting that if the automobiles are operated using solar and wind power across the country, it will save Rs. 1 lakh crore spent on petrol which is imported from abroad, Rangaiyan said.“Clean energy such as solar and wind power generation is good for the world, the country and the people”

“This will ensure that our power consumption does not affect the environment badly. In the budget to be presented by the in the coming Budget Session, in Parliament, the acceleration depreciation amount should be increased from 40% to 80% instead of announcing subsidy on wind power generation’” Kasturi Rangaiyan noted.
