Cases filed against 250 two-wheeler riders for non-compliance of the helmet rule; good majority of them college students

Police said that a large number of college students continue to travel on two-wheelers without wearing helmets and throwing caution to the winds.


Coimbatore: The City traffic police have registered cases against more than 250 two-wheeler riders for not wearing helmets and imposed fines on them. A good majority of the offenders for noncompliance were college students.

The City Police are continuously carrying out awareness campaigns emphasizing the need to wear helmets as head injuries lead to fatal accidents of bikers.

Cases have been registered against those riding two-wheelers without wearing helmets

As per the instructions of Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan an awareness campaign was held on the 7th last on Pollachi road.

Police said that a large number of college students continue to travel on two-wheelers without wearing helmets and throwing caution to the winds.

In order to prevent this, "Uyir" Salai Pathukappu Amaippu, along with the police conducted an awareness campaign in front of the colleges. The police also carried out vehicle checks in front of Rathinam College, LIC Colony, Nehru and Krishna Colleges.

The vehicle check was carried out between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at four locations, in which 250 offenders were booked for non-compliance.

It is to be noted that college students were the bulk of the offenders. Awareness was also created about the importance of wearing helmets for the elderly and women.

Traffic Police Sub-Inspectors Selvakumar, Rangadurai, Arthanari, SSI Aruldurai, Ettukal Ilango, Karpoorasundarapandian, Raja and other college students participated in this awareness campaign.
