Youth’s tragic suicide in Pollachi: Cricket betting to blame?

Sabanayagam, a young man from Coimbatore, committed suicide at a private hotel in Pollachi. Preliminary investigations have indicated that he committed suicide after losing up to Rs 90 lakhs in cricket betting.



Coimbatore: A young man committed suicide at a private hotel in Pollachi in a horrific occurrence.

Sabanayagam (35) is from Sapatai Kizhavan Pudur in Tamil Nadu's Pollachi district. At 2.10 a.m. yesterday, he was staying at a private hotel in Gandhipuram, Coimbatore.

Because he had to leave the room today, the switch was turned off when the hostel staff called his cell phone. The staff immediately opened the room by changing the room keys.

He was found dead near the bathroom. The 108 ambulance arrived promptly and informed them that they had arrived to check on him and that he had died five hours before.



They then notified the authorities. After receiving the information, the police collected the body and transported it to a government hospital for a post-mortem. They also registered a complaint and are investigating.

Police preliminary inquiry has indicated that he may have committed suicide owing to mental anguish after losing up to Rs 90 lakhs in cricket betting.
