Boy drowns near Thadagam in Coimbatore

Rainwater has accumulated in a pit dug for an illegal brick kiln at Naickenpalayam near Thadagam. Haris (14), a 14-year-old boy, drowned while he was bathing in the water.



oimbatore: In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old boy drowned in a pit dug illegally near Thadagam in Coimbatore.

Wild animals and mineral resources are being affected by illegal trenches dug to make bricks in violation of government orders in and around Thadagam. Meanwhile, the High Court has ordered the closure of brick kilns that were operating illegally in and around Thadagam.

In the meantime, the NGT has also ordered to cover the pits dug there with red soil. In this case, the pit dug in the land belonging to Sivakumar, a resident of No. 1 Naickenpalayam, had accumulated rainwater.

In this case, five school children from Santhimedu area took a bath in the rainwater in the pit and played. When everyone came out later, Haris (14), son of Velmurugan, allegedly tried to remove a log from the water.

As the boy did not know how to swim, he accidentally drowned in 10 feet deep water. The police were informed after fellow boys told the elders present there.



Following this, the Periyanayakkanpalayam police, with the help of fire department, recovered the body of haris and sent it to coimbatore government hospital for post-mortem.

The remains of wild animals have also been found in the same area. Environmentalists have demanded that appropriate action be taken against the land owner.
