Boost Cotton Production in Tamil Nadu: Tirupur MP Subbarayan calls for Electricity Bill Concession

Tirupur Member of Parliament Subbarayan held an important press conference from his office on Uthukuli Road in Tirupur. During his speech, Subbarayan spoke about the current crisis that Tirupur is facing and how garments manufactured in the region are being exported to all five continents. He also highlighted the large amount of trade taking place within the country. The MP emphasized the need to take immediate steps to address the crisis.

Tirupur: People believed that Modi would do good but he is only supporting the corporates and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should call the MSMEs and take steps on a war footing to resolve the crisis.

Tirupur MP Subbarayan said cotton production should be encouraged and a concession in electricity costs should be announced.

Subbarayan, MP for Tirupur, held a press conference from his office on Uthukuli Road in Tirupur.

Speaking on the occasion, he stated that Tirupur is facing a major crisis and garments manufactured in Tirupur are being exported to all the five continents and there is a huge amount of trade in the country as well.

People from various districts of Tamil Nadu and the lowest states of India have been migrating here and working with their families, he said. He voiced concern that such a special Tirupur is facing a severe crisis, and that if the situation continues, Tirupur will become like a village again.

People believe that if Modi comes, industries will improve but he is only helping in the development of corporates. Small enterprises are losing business to big companies. Similarly, Bangladeshi clothing is less expensive than Tirupur clothing. "The central government has taken note of this and is considering how to bite the opposition parties rather than how to promote the hosiery sector through concessions," they claimed.

He also urged that the Tamil Nadu government announce several incentives for this sector in order to create more employment opportunities. He criticised abrupt announcements such as a rise in electricity tariffs in Tamil Nadu at night, claiming that tragedy never strikes in a single blow.

Cotton production should be boosted because Tamil Nadu grows barely one-eighth of the required cotton. He urged that various concessions for farmers be announced. He urged the Tamil Nadu government to contact the small paniyan growers in Tirupur, hold discussions with them, and take immediate steps to save Tirupur from the crisis.
