BJP state president Annamalai says Special committee set up to probe DIG Vijayakumar's suicide

Annamalai has suggested that a special investigation team should be formed into the death of DIG Vijayakumar in the presence of High Court Supervision. The details of the conversation between Vijayakumar and the police officers he had spoken to earlier should be examined to determine what could have caused his stress.

Coimbatore: BJP state president Annamalai addressed a press conference at the airport in Coimbatore.

The news that DIG Vijayakumar is not presently with us has caused grief among everyone, The grief for me is even greater when I think that I have also served in the same police force for nine years. The BJP, the people of the region and the opposition parties had great respect for Vijayakumar.

Many people say he worked as an officer who was connected to the poor and downtrodden. What is happening in other states is also beginning to happen in Tamil Nadu. We have seen Suicide by Officers in the Central Security Force, especially in the Norjan area, where officers commit suicide with their guns. This is the first time we've seen something like this in Tamil Nadu.

While there are numerous reasons for this, we will focus on the most prevalent one: the work pressure that can exist in the police force. Especially in the lower echelons of the police force, the constable, the head constable, the assistant sub-inspector, the special sub-inspector, and the sub-inspector, the stress they may have at this stage is extreme stress that does not exist in any department.

The pressure from those around them is a separate kind of pressure. When it comes to a political party, there is a kind of stress and transfers are the reasons. The police force needs to be revamped. First and foremost, the stress of police officers has to be reduced.

At present, there are 10,000 vacancies in the police force in Tamil Nadu. If it is filled, the work pressure on the existing police personnel will be reduced. Therefore, the Chief Minister should fill up the total number of vacancies in the police force in two years on a war footing.

After the DMK came to power, a committee headed by former judge C T Selvam was constituted for this purpose and the report of the committee has not been received till now. It should be kept in public and whatever has to be done with it should be done.

The Government of Tamil Nadu should constitute a committee and improve the 2006 judgement of the Supreme Court on some important issues to be implemented. Transfers should not be provided for two years and there should be basic necessities at the places where policemen work.

Transport facilities, toilet facilities should be provided. A day of compulsory weekly off should be given. When I work in Karnataka, we will strictly follow this.Police officers should likewise be offered block leave. When I was in the police force, I took less than 20 days' leave in nine years.

It makes no difference if you spend Rs 10,000 crore to improve the reputation of the Tamil Nadu police. What's going to happen over there? We estimate Rs 3 lakh crore, of which Rs 10,000 crore is allocated for police development, and the country would not suffer.

A special investigation team should be formed into the death of DIG Vijayakumar and conducted in the presence of the High Court Super Vision. What was the conversation between Vijayakumar and the police officers and which officers he had spoken to earlier? What were the cases he was examining, and the communication between him and the DGP should be thoroughly examined to determine the source of stress.

There should be care when speaking to higher officials and the officials Group A government job should be given to the heir of the deceased family. The ED's probe against former Coimbatore minister Senthil Balaji is going on on one side. In this case, we have not co-related anything about his suicide incident. We need to find out the reason behind Vijayakumar's suicide.

"Because no officer in the mental state of committing suicide will pass the IPS, beyond that, we need to know the reason behind it," he said.
