While the people of Coimbatore corporation's 20th, 26th and 28th wards are using the route to reach their residential areas, if the entrance work is completed and the public is denied permission, they will have to travel around six kilometres.

Coimbatore: While people are using it to go to residential areas, if the entrance work is completed and the public is denied permission, they will have to go around six kilometres. The councillors have demanded that the work on the entrance be stopped.

The corporators submitted a memorandum to the District Collector demanding that the construction of the entrance work on the way to the FCI godown on Sathy Road in Coimbatore be stopped.

In their petition, they said that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is carrying out the restoration work of the food godown near Bharathi Nagar on Sathy Road, which has a distance of about two kilometres to reach the food godown owned by the Food Corporation of India. As part of this, a gate will be set up at the end of the national highway on Sathy Road at the end of the route and only food corporation vehicles will be allowed. While the people of Coimbatore corporation's 20th, 26th and 28th wards are using the route to reach their residential areas, if the entrance work is completed and the public is denied permission, they will have to travel around six kilometres.

Therefore, the district administration should take steps to put the entrance work on hold. They have also requested the district administration and the Government of Tamil Nadu to take steps to ensure that the food corporation administration makes necessary arrangements for the use of the public as in the past.

The petition was submitted to the district collector by 20th ward councillor Mariyaraj, 26th ward councillor Chitra Velliangiri and 28th ward councillor Kannagi Jyothi Basu led by Coimbatore MP P R Natarajan.
