A three-day camp focusing on Climate Change and Sustainability was organized by Kumaraguru Institutions for National Green Corps representatives from Coimbatore's government schools on January 25, 2024, featuring tours and expert sessions on environmental conservation.

Coimbatore: In a significant step towards fostering environmental awareness among the youth, Kumaraguru Institutions recently hosted a three-day Climate Literacy and Sustainability Awareness camp. This initiative, specifically designed for the representatives of the National Green Corps from various government schools across the Coimbatore District, aimed to imbue the participants with a deep understanding of climate change and sustainability practices.

The camp featured a comprehensive sustainability tour across the Kumaraguru campus, showcasing the institution's efforts in integrating sustainability into its infrastructure and operations. Through this tour, the participants were introduced to various green initiatives undertaken by the campus, providing them with real-world examples of how environmental sustainability can be achieved in educational institutions.

Adding to the immersive learning experience, the camp included several sessions conducted by experts in the field of environmental science and sustainability. These sessions covered a wide range of topics, from the basics of climate change to advanced sustainability practices, equipping the students with knowledge and skills to contribute positively to the environment.

A highlight of the camp was the visit to the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, where the participants engaged in a nature walk. Dr Pramod, Principal Scientist of Saxon addressed the students. This excursion offered them a firsthand experience of biodiversity and the importance of conserving natural habitats for the future.

Furthermore, the children spent a day at the Noyyal Life Centre, delving into the specifics of the Noyyal River and the various initiatives undertaken by Siruthuli, a local environmental organization focused on water conservation and sustainability. This visit emphasized the critical aspects of climate change and sustainability, providing a practical perspective on environmental conservation efforts.

Through this camp, Kumaraguru Institutions has significantly contributed to raising awareness about climate literacy and sustainability among the young representatives of the National Green Corps, inspiring a new generation to champion environmental causes.
