Heart Awareness Marathon Initiated by Commissioner in Tudiyalur, Coimbatore

The Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan flagged off a heart awareness marathon in Tudiyalur, emphasizing the importance of exercise and diet for heart health. Over a thousand participants joined the race to spread awareness.

Coimbatore: In an effort to raise awareness about heart disease, a special heart awareness marathon was initiated by Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan in Tudiyalur, under the aegis of a private hospital. The marathon saw participation from over a thousand runners, aiming to underscore the significance of maintaining heart health through regular exercise and proper diet.

Highlighting the critical role of the heart in human health, the event, dubbed "Run for Heart," sought to instill the importance of physical activity and healthy eating habits among the public. This initiative is part of a broader campaign to educate people on preventing heart diseases and promoting overall wellness.

The marathon, organized by Viji Hospital, featured three categories - 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and 3 kilometers, attracting a wide range of participants including men, women, and even the Police Commissioner himself, who officially started the race by flagging off.

Dr. Venkatesh, Director and Physician at Viji Hospital, speaking with reporters, shared that this heart awareness marathon is the second of its kind, following a diabetes awareness marathon. He stressed the importance of protecting the heart, especially given today's lifestyle where young individuals are increasingly susceptible to heart attacks from as early as 35 years due to sedentary habits involving extensive use of cell phones and laptops.

He called for the youth to allocate even a fraction of their time spent on electronic devices towards physical activity, emphasizing that safeguarding one's heart is paramount for a healthy life. This marathon serves as a crucial reminder of the necessity to prioritize physical health and the well-being of our hearts.
