Collector distributes handbills, shopping bags

Collector and District Election Officer Archana Patnaik on Friday distributed handbills and shopping bags containing voter awareness messages to shoppers on Oppanakara Street.

A release from the district administration said that the objective was to encourage the voters to exercise their franchise on May 16 so that the district achieved 100 per cent polling.

The administration had thus far taken several other measures like organising rallies, conducting street plays and asking students to take pledge from their parents to improve the polling percentage.

Later the Collector also held a meeting with representatives of corporate companies in Coimbatore and employees of public sector undertakings so as to encourage them and their staff to vote. She asked the senior officers and representatives of the companies to conduct awareness among their employees on ethical voting.

She also explained the steps the district administration had taken to improve voting percentage and then asked the managers at the TIDEL Park to encourage the employees there to take a pledge to vote and hold activities that would encourage others to vote.

The release added that she then asked the corporate company representatives to declare May 16 a holiday so that the employees could exercise their franchise.
