Coimbatore's LMW-ATC Achieves Milestone by Delivering India's First OPLF for GSLV MKIII to ISRO

LMW Advanced Technology Center (LMW ATC) has successfully delivered India's first privately manufactured composite Ogive Payload Fairing (OPLF) for the GSLV MK-III to ISRO, marking a significant milestone in India's aerospace sector.



Coimbatore: In a landmark achievement for India's private aerospace manufacturing sector, LMW Advanced Technology Center (LMW ATC) successfully delivered the country's first privately realised composite Ogive Payload Fairing (OPLF) for the GSLV MK-III project to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on Tuesday. 

The OPLF, a critical component designed to protect satellites against various loads during launch, measures 5 meters in diameter and 10.75 meters in height, comprising four segments: Boat tail, Cylinder, Ogive, and Nose cap, and is made from carbon composites.

The ceremonial handover was hosted at ISRO's Headquarters, blending in-person and virtual attendances. Dr. Somanath, ISRO's Chairman, and Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu, Chairman and Managing Director of LMW, were present on-site. Concurrently, Dr. S. Unnikrishnan Nair, Director of VSSC, alongside prominent ISRO scientists and members of the LMW ATC team, joined the event virtually.



Dr. Somanath unveiled the payload fairing virtually, and Mr. Jayavarthanavelu handed over the hardware documents to ISRO's Chairman and expressed LMW's commitment to supporting ISRO's mission, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the two organizations.  

LMW-ATC's contributions extend to various ISRO projects, including Chandrayaan-3, the GSLV-F14/INSAT-3DS mission, and the anticipated Gaganyaan G1 Mission, showcasing its pivotal role in India's aerospace advancements.
