Coimbatore: A surge of spiritual fervor and tradition marked the commencement of the annual Chariot Festival at the revered Mariamman Temple in Udumalai. The festival, which started on the 9th with rituals of fasting and floral offerings, saw a significant number of devotees participating in various ceremonies over the past week, including the 'Poovodu' event which began yesterday night. At this event, devotees paid 250 rupees to partake in picking flowers, facilitated by the distribution of tokens by the temple administration. The event will continue each evening through next Tuesday.

Maintaining the sanctity and order during the increasing crowd, the temple management has deployed CCTV surveillance around crucial areas.
