Devotees Participate in Sword Ceremony at Mariamman Temple Festival in Udumalai

On the auspicious occasion of the Mariamman Temple Festival in Udumalai, devotees engaged in a ceremonial sword carrying event marking their devotion. The procession and special worship activities were a spectacle.

Coimbatore: The Mariamman Temple in Udumalai observed its annual Ther Thiruvizha with lavish ceremonies beginning on September 9 with more activities following, such as pongal offerings and flag hoisting. Recently, as part of the chariot festival, a spectacular sword carrying procession and Shakti Kalasam rituals were carried out by supporters of the Devangar Community Welfare Association.

Earlier, the event commenced from the nearby Selva Vinayakar Temple with devotees carrying Shakti Kalasams and handling swords with both hands and across their backs, following a traditional route through important streets such as Srinivasa road, Pasupathi road, Thali road, and reaching the main temple area. Upon arriving at the Mariamman Temple, special ablution and worship ceremonies took place to honor the deity. Impressively, the Shakti Kalasam was carried to the temple suspended in the air from a single banana fruit without any support, leaving onlookers spellbound.
