Coimbatore Man Commits Suicide After Losing Money in Online Betting

Muthukumar from Neeliyamman Nagar, Idayarpalayam, Coimbatore, committed suicide after losing significant amounts in online gambling, including IPL betting and Rummy.

Coimbatore: A tragic event unfolded near Idayarpalayam as Muthukumar, a private company employee, hanged himself due to heavy financial losses incurred through online gambling platforms. Residing at Vadavalli Road, Neeliyamman Nagar, Muthukumar became heavily involved in betting during the recent IPL season through the platform Dream-11, where he lost thousands of rupees expecting a win of up to Rs. 1 crore. Further investigations revealed he lost lakhs in other online casinos including Rummy, leading to severe distress.

Family members, shocked by the incident, rushed Muthukumar to a nearby private hospital after discovering him. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The distressing results of his betting spree came to light when Koundampalayam Police registered a case to investigate his suicide. They found that this was not his first suicide attempt; Muthukumar had tried to end his life twice before.

This raises concerns about the mental health issues tied to gambling addictions and the need for regulatory measures on online betting platforms. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of Muthukumar's drastic decision.
