Farmer Attempts Suicide by Consuming Pesticide in Pollachi; Police Intervene

In Pollachi, a farmer attempted suicide by ingesting pesticide amid protests. Police swiftly intervened, preventing the act and registering a case against sellers distributing hazardous substances.


Coimbatore: A tense scenario unfolded in Pollachi when a local farmer, identified as Balasubramaniam, attempted to commit suicide by drinking pesticide in the midst of a protest. The incident occurred during a demonstration led by Narayanasamy Naidu, head of the Farmer's Association. The protest, staged in front of the Pollachi Deputy Superintendent's office, was to voice concerns against the rampant selling of toxic liquor in the area.




Furthermore, the police have taken a strong stance against the distribution of toxic substances, initiating investigations and cases against those associated with selling hazardous drinks, commonly known as 'vish sarayam.' The rising concern among local farmers about these dangerous practices led to the demonstration that almost turned tragic with a suicide attempt.
