Coimbatore to get Tamil Nadu Government’s ‘Guidance Tamilnadu’ program

The Tamil Nadu government will soon open its first Branch outside Chennai of Guidance Tamil Nadu in Coimbatore aimed at enhancing industrial investment and facilitating faster clearances for startups.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu government announced its plan on Friday to open a branch of Guidance Tamil Nadu in Coimbatore, marking it the second such office in the state. The new office is set to foster larger scales of investment and streamline the process for startup clearances.

President of Coimbatore District Small Industries’ Association, M. Karthikeyan, has welcomed the move, suggesting that it will significantly benefit the region's industrial growth. "This is a fantastic development for Coimbatore as it will attract both large and relatively smaller investments more efficiently," he explained. According to him, the new branch might speed up the overall approvals needed to kickstart industrial projects.

Yet, another industrial association head relayed some criticisms regarding the functioning of Guidance Tamil Nadu as a coordinating authority. He disclosed that although initially effective in expediting approvals, the service has seen a slowdown, contradicting its primary aim of a seamless single window system for approvals.

Acknowledging these concerns, a government official stated that Guidance T.N. continues to assist large industries in obtaining necessary approvals and facilitated the integration of various departments into the single window portal to simplify processes. "If applicants adhere rigorally to the stipulated procedures and submit the requisite documents, the approval process remains straightforward," he noted.

Despite these advancements, the lack of significant government-prompted industrial investments in Coimbatore remains a point of discussion. Industrialists argue that investing in infrastructural facilities like a larger airport would significantly enhance investment inflows into Coimbatore, which currently sees most investments directed towards the greater Chennai area.
