Coimbatore District Collector Invites Farmers to Benefit from Government-Subsidized Fodder Cultivation Scheme

Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati announced a government-subsidized fodder cultivation scheme for farmers. The initiative aims to address fodder shortage and promote green fodder production, allocating 525 acres for cultivation in orchards and groves.

Coimbatore: District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has announced the implementation of a government-subsidized fodder cultivation scheme in Coimbatore district for the current financial year. The scheme, which has been in operation for the past 11 years, aims to address fodder shortage, reduce fodder wastage, and encourage livestock farmers to produce green fodder.

In a recent press release, Collector Pati emphasized that fodder and green fodder are crucial factors for livestock productivity. He stated that providing an adequate amount of green fodder to milch cows is essential for increasing milk production.

The Tamil Nadu government has allocated 525 acres of land in Coimbatore district for this year's scheme. Farmers will be encouraged to cultivate green fodder as an intercrop in orchards and fruit groves. As an incentive, farmers will receive Rs. 3,000 per acre.

Priority will be given to small and marginal farmers who own orchards or fruit groves (with a minimum of 0.5 acres and a maximum of 25 acres) and possess livestock. Farmers should be willing to cultivate perennial fodder crops as intercrops and commit to implementing the scheme continuously for three years.

The scheme mandates that 30 percent of the beneficiaries should be from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities. Interested farmers can approach their nearest veterinary dispensaries to avail themselves of the benefits under this scheme.

This initiative is part of the state government's efforts to improve the standard of living of farmers through the Department of Animal Husbandry. By promoting fodder cultivation, the scheme aims to ensure a steady supply of nutritious feed for livestock, ultimately contributing to increased milk production and farmers' income.
