TNCC chief says no room for TMC in Cong-DMK front

Putting an end to speculation over G K Vasan's TMC joining the DMK-led front, TNCC president E V K S Elangovan on Saturday said DMK will not entertain the breakaway group. Last week, DMK leader M K Stalin had ruled out any talks being held between DMK and TMC.

On arriving at the Coimbatore airport on Saturday, Elangovan told mediapersons, "TMC will not join the DMK-Congress combine. There is no possibility of that. And, DMK will also not take them in." Elangovan was on his way to Kangeyam in Tiruppur district.

Elangovan's "clarification" comes in the wake of statements by DMK and Congress leaders that they were not averse to TMC joining the front and were only opposed to BJP. Last week, DMK spokesperson T K S Elangovan, in an interview to a Tamil channel, said TMC was welcome to join the front if the Congress had no objections. For his part, senior Congress leader S Tirunavukkarasar said, "Congress has no problems if DMK aligns with any party, including TMC, except BJP."

But, Vasan has been quietly waiting for a call from AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa for an alliance. Vasan, who broke away from the Congress following differences with the leadership, to revive TMC floated by his father G K Moopanar, has made clear his leanings towards the ruling party. While there have been reports about the DMDK-PWF front trying to woo TMC with an offer of 20 to 25 seats, Vasan told TOI, "I am not in alliance talks with anyone."

On seat sharing talks, Elangovan told reporters in Coimbatore that the party's senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad will hold discussions with DMK chief M Karunanidhi in a day or two, and an announcement could be expected soon.
