Flood Alert: Tourists Banned from Bathing at Panchalinga Falls in Udumalpet

Due to heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats, Panchalinga Falls in Udumalpet experiences flooding. Temple administration imposes bathing ban for tourists as a precautionary measure, disappointing visitors.

Coimbatore: The Panchalinga Falls, situated at the foothills of the Western Ghats near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district, has been closed for bathing due to sudden flooding caused by heavy rainfall in the region. The temple administration has imposed this ban as a precautionary measure, leaving many tourists disappointed.

The falls are located about 950 meters above the Amanalingeswarar Temple at Thirumoorthy Hills. This temple is renowned for its self-manifested idols of Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu, attracting devotees seeking blessings. The Panchalinga Falls receive their water supply from various streams and rivers originating in the Western Ghats.

Over the past two days, the Western Ghats area has been experiencing persistent drizzles and occasional heavy downpours. This increased rainfall has led to a surge in water flow, resulting in flooding at the Panchalinga Falls. In response to this situation, the temple authorities have restricted tourists from bathing in the falls to ensure their safety.

The sudden ban has left many visitors, who had come to enjoy the natural beauty and take a dip in the falls, feeling let down. However, the administration's quick action in implementing safety measures has been crucial in preventing any potential accidents due to the unexpected increase in water levels.

Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will likely reassess the bathing ban once the water levels recede and it is deemed safe for tourists to enter the falls again.
