Coimbatore: V.P. Shanmugasundaram, former DMK Member of Parliament from Gobichettipalayam constituency, passed away on the morning of July 20 due to health complications. He was 75 years old.

According to family members, Shanmugasundaram had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Coimbatore when he breathed his last. The veteran politician served as the MP for Gobichettipalayam from 1996 to 1998 and held several key positions within the DMK party.

Shanmugasundaram's political career was marked by his dedication to the DMK and his service to the people of Gobichettipalayam. His contributions to the party and his constituency were significant during his tenure as an MP.

DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his condolences on Shanmugasundaram's demise. In his statement, Stalin said, "I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of V.P. Shanmugasundaram, a member of DMK's executive committee and former Member of Parliament."
