Sudden Sinkhole Near Pollachi Bus Stand on National Highway - Public Demands Immediate Repair

A sinkhole appeared on the National Highway near Pollachi Central Bus Stand on July 20, causing water wastage and traffic disruption. Public demands immediate repair to prevent further damage and water supply issues.

Coimbatore: A sudden sinkhole has appeared on the National Highway near the Pollachi Central Bus Stand, causing concern among local residents and commuters. The incident, which occurred on July 20, has led to significant water wastage and potential traffic hazards.

The sinkhole emerged due to a burst in the main water pipeline of the Pollachi Municipality, which runs beneath the center of the National Highway. The pipeline rupture caused a considerable amount of water to be wasted before municipal workers could address the issue.

Upon inspection, officials discovered a large cave-like depression in the middle of the road. Traffic police immediately cordoned off the area and diverted vehicles to ensure public safety.

This incident comes just months after the National Highways Authority constructed a roundabout in front of the Pollachi Central Bus Stand. The water pipeline burst has now caused cracks in the newly built roundabout, with parts of it sinking into the ground. Fissures have appeared around the structure, exacerbating the road damage.

The sinkhole and associated pipeline damage have raised concerns about potential disruptions to the water supply in Pollachi. Local residents and social activists have urged authorities to take immediate action to repair the road and pipeline to prevent further deterioration and ensure uninterrupted water distribution.

The incident highlights the need for regular infrastructure maintenance and the potential risks associated with underground utilities. As repair work begins, locals hope for a swift resolution to minimize inconvenience and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
