Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Chairs Meeting on Southwest Monsoon Preparedness

Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS chaired a meeting on August 12, 2024, to discuss precautionary measures and rescue operations for the Southwest Monsoon. Officials were instructed to coordinate efforts across all departments.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS chaired a meeting on August 12, 2024, to discuss precautionary measures and rescue operations in preparation for the Southwest Monsoon. The meeting was held at the R.S. Puram Kalai Arangam auditorium in the Western Zone of Coimbatore Corporation.

During the meeting, the Commissioner informed that the Meteorological Department has forecasted an intensification of the Southwest Monsoon in Tamil Nadu. He stated that there is a high possibility of rain in Tamil Nadu, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in various parts of the state from August 12 to August 17, 2024, due to atmospheric circulation.

Commissioner Prabakaran instructed all departmental officials to coordinate and undertake necessary preparatory work in the Eastern, Western, Northern, Southern, and Central zones of Coimbatore Corporation. He emphasized the need to keep water pumps and tree-cutting machines ready and in surplus. The Health Department was directed to maintain cleanliness in rain-affected areas promptly and be prepared to set up medical camps where necessary.

The Commissioner also stressed the importance of immediate rescue operations for residents in low-lying areas affected by rain. He instructed officials to evacuate affected people to relief camps and ensure they are provided with food and other basic necessities.

The meeting was attended by various corporation officials, including Deputy Commissioner K. Sivakumar, Chief Engineer Anbazhagan, City Health Officer (in-charge) Marubhupathi, Town Planning Officer Kumar, Deputy Chief Engineers, Zonal Assistant Commissioners, Assistant Executive Engineers, Assistant Engineers, Zonal Health Inspectors, and other corporation officers.
