Pathway Dispute Near Madathukulam Leads to DMK Workers' Altercation and Farmer's Suicide Attempt in Tirupur

Over 100 DMK workers engaged in a heated argument near Madathukulam over a pathway dispute. A farmer attempted suicide by pouring petrol on himself, causing tension in the area.

Coimbatore: A dispute over a pathway near Madathukulam in Tiruppur district led to a tense situation when over 100 DMK workers engaged in a heated argument, resulting in a farmer's suicide attempt.

Veerakumar, a farmer, owns 3.30 acres of land in Metrathi Panchayat near Madathukulam. Adjacent to his property, Gautham, a DMK youth wing organizer for Madathukulam West Union, recently acquired one acre of land. Gautham claimed that there was a pathway through Veerakumar's land to access his property and petitioned the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO).

The RDO, after investigation, ordered the Madathukulam Tahsildar and Survey Department to establish a pathway for Gautham. Veerakumar's side strongly opposed this decision. A few days ago, when the Madathukulam Tahsildar's office sent a summons to Veerakumar's house, finding no one at home, they pasted a notice on the wall.

Today, when over 100 DMK workers, supporting Gautham, accompanied the Madathukulam Tahsildar and Survey Department officials to Veerakumar's property, Veerakumar's family requested a five-day extension as he was currently undergoing treatment in a hospital. Gautham's supporters strongly objected to this, and more than 50 people trespassed and engaged in a heated argument with the women from Veerakumar's side.

Suddenly, Kanagaraj, a relative of Veerakumar, attempted suicide by pouring petrol on himself, causing panic in the area. Additionally, a woman named Selvarani attempted to consume pesticide, further escalating the tension.

DSP Sugumaran from Udumalaipettai arrived at the scene with over 50 police personnel. The revenue and police departments have granted a five-day extension to Veerakumar's side regarding the pathway issue.

The incident of farmer Kanagaraj attempting suicide by pouring petrol and Selvarani trying to consume pesticide has created a significant stir in the Madathukulam area, highlighting the intensity of the pathway dispute between the DMK workers and the local farmers.
