Coimbatore: The Coimbatore city police arrested a man for illegally selling Kerala lottery tickets near RS Puram on Friday evening. The suspect, identified as Velmurugan (45) from MNG Street, Coimbatore, was caught red-handed during a routine patrol by the local police.

Special Sub-Inspectors Nagaraj and Kanagaraj were on patrol duty near Gandhi Park in RS Puram on August 18 when they noticed a man standing near a bus stop, selling lottery tickets. Upon closer inspection, they discovered that the tickets were from the Kerala state lottery, which is illegal to sell in Tamil Nadu.

The police officers immediately apprehended Velmurugan and seized 22 lottery tickets, a two-wheeler, and a mobile phone from his possession. During questioning, it was revealed that Velmurugan worked as a security guard and was involved in the illegal sale of lottery tickets to supplement his income.
