Special Train Service Between Chennai Central and Coimbatore for Vinayagar Chaturthi

Southern Railway announces special train service between Chennai Central and Coimbatore starting September 6th for Vinayagar Chaturthi festival. The train will cater to passengers from Salem, Erode, Tirupur, and Coimbatore regions.


Coimbatore: The Southern Railway has announced a special train service between Chennai Central and Coimbatore, set to commence on September 6th, to accommodate the surge in passengers traveling for the Vinayagar Chaturthi festival. This initiative aims to facilitate the journey of people from Chennai to Salem, Erode, Tirupur, and Coimbatore regions who will be heading to their hometowns for the festivities on Friday.

The special train, numbered 06151/06152, will operate as a Superfast Express between Chennai Central and Coimbatore. Train number 06151 will depart from Chennai Central on September 6th (Friday) at 3:45 PM and arrive in Coimbatore at 11:45 PM the same day. For the return journey, train number 06152 will leave Coimbatore on September 8th (Sunday) at 11:30 PM and reach Chennai Central at 7:35 AM the following day.

The composition of these special trains includes one AC First Class coach, one AC Two Tier coach, two AC Three Tier coaches, twelve sleeper class coaches, and three unreserved general coaches. The train will make stops at Tiruvallur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, and Tirupur stations en route to Coimbatore from Chennai. On the return journey, it will halt at Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Jolarpettai, Katpadi, Arakkonam, Tiruvallur, and Perambur (Chennai) before reaching Chennai Central.

Southern Railway has stated that bookings for these special trains have already commenced. This service is expected to significantly ease the travel woes of passengers during the festive period, which includes Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations on Saturday, September 7th, and the auspicious Subha Muhurtham day on Monday.

The announcement comes as a relief for many who plan to participate in the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations at their hometowns. Traditionally, people install Vinayagar idols in their homes for worship, followed by immersion ceremonies starting from Sunday. The special train service will cater to the increased demand for travel to the Kongu region, including Salem, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, and Namakkal, during this festive period.
