Heavy Rainfall Lashed Across Coimbatore; Red Alert in KTCC from October 14-17

Coimbatore and other parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to experience heavy rainfall from October 14-17 due to a developing low pressure system. Interior districts, including Coimbatore, may face widespread rains in the coming days.

Coimbatore: The Kongu region, including Coimbatore, is bracing for heavy rainfall as a low pressure system develops over the Bay of Bengal. Meteorological reports indicate that the Upper Air Circulation (UAC) is intensifying and is expected to evolve into a Low Pressure Area (LOPAR), followed by a Well Marked Low (WML), and eventually into a Depression as it moves towards the North Tamil Nadu (NTN) and South Andhra Pradesh (SAP) coast.

The period from October 14-17 is forecasted to be a hotspot for intense rainfall, particularly in the Pondicherry-Chennai-Nellore-Kavali belt. While the exact start time of the rains is uncertain, at least one day of heavy precipitation is anticipated in these areas during the four-day period. If the low pressure system stalls or moves slowly near North Tamil Nadu, the region could experience heavy rains throughout the entire duration.

In the meantime, interior districts of Tamil Nadu, including Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Namakkal, and Dharmapuri, are expected to receive widespread rains for the next 2-3 days. These areas have already experienced significant rainfall, with the pattern likely to continue until the low pressure system fully develops and consolidates.

Authorities have issued warnings to fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea during this period and to follow official guidance closely. The Kodaikanal hill station may also experience heavy rains.

Chennai and its surrounding areas (KTCC) are predicted to have intermittent rain showers until Sunday, with a significant increase in rainfall intensity expected from Monday onwards.

As the weather system evolves, residents of Coimbatore and other affected areas are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during the anticipated heavy rainfall.
