Water levels rise in key dams across Coimbatore, Tiruppur districts

Water levels in major dams including Aliyar, Parambikulam, Sholayar, Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy have risen due to rainfall inflow, with officials monitoring inflow and regulated discharge across Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts.

Water levels in major dams across Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts have shown an increase following continuous inflow from rainfall in catchment areas, according to Water Resources Department officials.



At the Aliyar Dam near Anaimalai, which has a full capacity of 120 feet, the water level stood at 62.55 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 122 cubic feet per second (cusecs), while 368 cusecs of water is being discharged.



The Parambikulam Dam near Pollachi, with a capacity of 72 feet, recorded a water level of 36.05 feet. The dam is receiving 93 cusecs of inflow, and 1,070 cusecs is being released. Officials attributed the inflow to rainfall in the catchment areas influenced by the monsoon.



At the Sholayar Dam in Valparai, which has a capacity of 160 feet, the current water level is 10.6 feet. The inflow to the dam stands at 30 cusecs, with a discharge of 5 cusecs.



In Tiruppur district, the Amaravathi Dam, with a capacity of 90 feet, has reached a water level of 20.01 feet. The inflow is recorded at 17 cusecs, and 50 cusecs of water is being released.



Meanwhile, the Thirumoorthy Dam near Udumalpet, with a storage capacity of 60 feet, has a water level of 32.2 feet. The dam is receiving a significant inflow of 790 cusecs, while 630 cusecs is being discharged.

Officials stated that water levels are being closely monitored and regulated releases are being maintained to ensure storage stability and downstream safety.
