With 12,166 metric tonnes of fertilizers stocked for the upcoming Kharif season in Coimbatore district, the Agriculture Department has warned dealers against hoarding, overpricing and other violations, stating that strict action will be taken against offenders.
Coimbatore:
The Coimbatore Agriculture Department has warned fertilizer dealers against hoarding fertilizers or selling them above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP), stating that strict action will be taken against violators.
In a statement issued on Monday, Joint Director of Agriculture Tamilselvi said adequate fertilizer stocks have been maintained across the district to meet the requirements of the upcoming Kharif cultivation season.
According to the department, available stocks include 3,861 metric tonnes of urea, 1,056 metric tonnes of DAP, 2,548 metric tonnes of potash, 1,228 metric tonnes of super phosphate and 3,473 metric tonnes of complex fertilizers. A total of 12,166 metric tonnes of fertilizers are currently stocked in cooperative and private sales outlets across the district.
Farmers have been advised to conduct soil testing and apply fertilizers based on soil health recommendations or the guidelines available through the Tamil Mannvalam application to achieve better crop yields.
Fertilizer dealers have been instructed to distribute fertilizers, particularly urea and DAP, based on the cultivation area and crop requirements of farmers after recording their Aadhaar details.
The department has also directed dealers to maintain proper records containing the farmer’s address, mobile number and signature, and to issue sales receipts for every transaction.
Farmers have been encouraged to use Nano Urea, Nano DAP, bio-fertilizers and micronutrient fertilizers available through agricultural extension centres to reduce fertilizer consumption, improve soil fertility and lower cultivation costs.
The Agriculture Department warned that violations such as urea smuggling, hoarding, selling fertilizers above MRP and maintaining improper records would attract stringent action under the Fertilizer Control Order, 1985. Licences of fertilizer dealers found violating the rules will also be cancelled.
