Water Levels Rise in Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy Dams in Tiruppur District

Water levels at Amaravathi Dam have reached 36.52 feet and Thirumoorthy Dam 36.39 feet in Tiruppur district. Continuous inflow from catchment areas has led to water discharge from both reservoirs to benefit downstream agricultural areas.

Coimbatore: Water levels in the Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy dams located in Tiruppur district have risen significantly due to continuous inflow from catchment areas, Water Resources Department officials reported.

As of June 24, the water level in Amaravathi Dam, which has a total capacity of 90 feet, has risen to 36.52 feet. The dam is receiving an inflow of 125 cubic feet per second.

Water Resources Department officials stated that 588 cubic feet per second of water is currently being discharged from the dam. This release ensures irrigation facilities for agricultural lands in the downstream areas.

Similarly, Thirumoorthy Dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district with a total capacity of 60 feet, recorded a water level of 36.39 feet as of June 24.

Officials informed that this dam is receiving an inflow of 545 cubic feet per second. Currently, 321 cubic feet per second of water is being discharged from the reservoir.

With satisfactory water levels in both dams, farmers in downstream areas are expected to receive adequate irrigation facilities. Water Resources Department officials expressed optimism that if the inflow continues, the dams will reach their full capacity soon.
