Amaravathi and Thirumoorthy Dams See Rising Water Levels Following Continuous Inflow

Amaravathi Dam in Tiruppur district has reached 50.56 feet as of July 16, with an inflow of 219 cubic feet per second. Thirumoorthy Dam near Udumalaipettai stands at 27.75 feet with 653 cusecs inflow and 497 cusecs outflow, Water Resources Department officials reported.

Coimbatore: Water levels in two major dams in Tiruppur district have witnessed significant increases due to continuous inflow from their catchment areas, according to Water Resources Department officials.

The Amaravathi Dam, located in Tiruppur district with a total storage capacity of 90 feet, has seen its water level rise to 50.56 feet as of today, July 16. The dam is currently receiving an inflow of 219 cubic feet per second from its catchment areas. Water Resources Department officials confirmed that the steady inflow has contributed to the rising water levels in recent days.

Meanwhile, the Thirumoorthy Dam, situated near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, has a maximum storage capacity of 60 feet. As of July 16, the current water level stands at 27.75 feet. The dam is experiencing a substantial inflow of 653 cubic feet per second from its catchment regions.

To manage the water levels effectively, authorities are releasing 497 cubic feet per second of water from the Thirumoorthy Dam, Water Resources Department officials stated. The controlled release ensures the dam's safety while meeting downstream water requirements.

Both dams serve as crucial water sources for the Tiruppur district, supporting agricultural activities and meeting domestic water needs. The continuous inflow during this period has brought relief to the region, which depends heavily on these reservoirs for irrigation and drinking water supply.

Water Resources Department officials are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining regular updates on water levels and inflow-outflow patterns at both dams. They have assured that appropriate measures are being taken to manage the water resources efficiently while ensuring the structural safety of both reservoirs.

The increase in water levels comes as a welcome development for farmers and residents in the region who rely on these dams for their water requirements throughout the year.
