Ahead of the upcoming Onam festival, Southern Railway has announced bi-weekly special trains between Chennai Central and Kollam via Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and Podanur to cater to the expected increase in passenger traffic from August 13 to September 6.
Coimbatore: In view of the upcoming Onam festival on August 26, Southern Railway has announced the operation of a pair of bi-weekly special trains between Chennai Central and Kollam via Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur and Podanur to accommodate the expected surge in passenger traffic.
Train No. 06117 Chennai Central–Kollam Bi-Weekly Special will depart from Chennai Central at 11.50 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays from August 13 to September 5, reaching Kollam at 4.20 p.m. the following day. The return service, Train No. 06118 Kollam–Chennai Central Bi-Weekly Special, will leave Kollam at 6.45 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays from August 14 to September 6, arriving at Chennai Central at 11.35 a.m. the next day.
The special trains will comprise AC First Class-cum-AC 2-Tier, AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, Sleeper Class, and Luggage-cum-Brake Van coaches, including accommodation for differently-abled passengers.
En route, the trains will halt at Perambur, Tiruvallur, Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Podanur, Palakkad, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Changanassery, Tiruvalla, Chengannur, Mavelikara and Kayankulam before reaching Kollam.
As per the schedule, the Chennai–Kollam service will arrive at Salem at 5 a.m., Erode at 6.05 a.m., Tiruppur at 6.58 a.m. and Podanur at 8.23 a.m. The return Kollam–Chennai service will reach Podanur at 2.18 a.m., Tiruppur at 3 a.m., Erode at 3.55 a.m. and Salem at 4.57 a.m. before continuing its journey to Chennai.
