Kavitha (45) and Yasodha (24) from Palladam were killed after being mowed down by a train near Avarampalayam track in Coimbatore. The women were among the contract labourers who were clearing waste along the railway track on Thursday.
Coimbatore: Two women contract cleaning staffwere killed after being struck by a train while carrying out cleaning work on a railway track in Avarampalayam, between Peelamedu and Coimbatore North railway station in Coimbatore, on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Yasodha (24), and Kavitha (43). They were engaged in clearing garbagealong the railway track in Avarampalayam railway tracks when a train reportedly struck them. The impact threw both workers from the track, leaving them with severe injuries. They died at the spot.
After being alerted of the accident, personnel from the Government Railway Police station, rushed to the spot. They recovered the bodies and shifted for post-mortem examination to Coimbatore government hospital.
Further investigation is underway.
