Tamilnadu Theatre owners association to strike work from July 3rd condemning GST


Tamilnadu Theatre owners association has planned to strike work from July 3rd to register their protest against the steep hike in movie ticket rates owing to the GST roll out which is coming into effect from today.

The Theatre owners said that the movie screening business would be affected due to new tax regimen which has come into play. While a movie ticket priced below RS.100 attracts a GST of 18%, tickets over Rs.100 attract 28% of GST, which would affect the patronage given by movie goers.

Due to the planned strike the many movie theatre across Tamilnadu would suspend the screening of movie on July 3 to show their solidarity to scale down the GST levied on movie tickets.
