Reject DMK-Congress alliance: Jayalalithaa

Addressing the electorate in an industrial belt, Ms. Jayalalithaa took all the credit for the turnaround in the power situation.

AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday lashed out at the DMK-Congress combine as an “alliance of corrupt” and punished by the people for various scams.

In her 40-minute-long address here on Sunday, she asked the people to reject the “scam-tainted” DMK–Congress alliance. “There have been many scams like the coal scam, 2G spectrum scam, Adarsh housing and corruption in Commonwealth Games. Now, the helicopter scam has come out. The Congress at the Centre and the DMK in the State were running corrupt governments but are now trying to present a clean image and cheat people,” she charged.

Referring to the observations made in the Sarkaria Commission report against DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, she detailed the various scams that broke out during the DMK regime like the Veeranam (pipe-laying) project, land grabbing and illegal granite quarrying.

Addressing the electorate in an industrial belt, Ms. Jayalalithaa took all the credit for the turnaround in the power situation. The State had 10 hours of power cut on a daily basis during the DMK rule in 2011, affecting all sections of society, including farmers and students. “Now, my government has added 7,485.5 MW of power. From June last, there is no power cut,” she said.

On the industrial front, Tamil Nadu was second only to Maharashtra in domestic production and was the third largest exporter in the country.

“It has the largest number of MSMEs, and is a front runner in attracting foreign direct investment,” she said, underlining the need for a power surplus position.

Touching upon region-specific issues, she said the DMK did not fulfil its promises during 2006-11. The manifesto promised many schemes like food processing parks, underground power cable in major cities and rope-car facilities in Ooty, Yercaud and Kodaikanal but had failed to implement them.

The AIADMK has not only fulfilled all the electoral promises but also implemented many more like Amma Unavagam, Amma Salt, Amma Cement and Amma Pharmacies she said, promising to implement the Athikadavu-Avinashi groundwater recharge scheme, pending for over five decades.

She also appealed to the voters in Kerala to vote for the party’s seven candidates on the ‘cap’ symbol.
