Karamadai murder: Cop interrogated

The hearing in the murder of a Karamadai professor was heard before the district mahila court on Tuesday. The victim was raped and murdered at her residence by K Mahesh alias Daniel, 28.

Investigating officer deposed before the court and was cross-examined. Police said the verdict is expected to be pronounced by the end of this month.

"The investigation officer was cross examined and the details of the case were recorded. The accused was also questioned by the prosecution," said police. They said that they had listed nearly 43 witnesses and over 70 material evidences in the chargesheet. The next hearing was posted on May 12, when witnesses would be questioned.

On November 4, 2014, D Ramya, 24, an assistant professor, was being followed by Mahesh. He entered her house and attacked Ramya and her mother. He allegedly raped Ramya and stole her four sovereign gold chain. Police said that Mahesh was a Class 12 dropout and was involved in several theft and burglary cases in Tirunelveli and other districts in Tamil Nadu.
