Expansion works on at weaving park

Palladam Hi-Tech Weaving Park, which is in operation since 2008, is investing over Rs. 30 crore to expand operations.

It currently focuses on weaving and is adding garment and made-up manufacturing facilities at a cost of Rs. 26.15 crore, including Rs. 10 crore grant from the Central Government under the Scheme for Additional Grant for Apparel Manufacturing. Three garment /made-up making units will come up as part of the expansion project and one of it has started operations.

The Union Ministry of Textiles has also sanctioned Rs. 3 crore grant under the Scheme for Textile Industry Workers’ Accommodation to construct a hostel for workers. The project is coming up at a cost of Rs. 6.55 crore and can accommodate an additional 600 workers.

When the expansion project is completed, the park will create 3,000 new jobs by next year. Union Textile Secretary Rashmi Verma, Additional Secretary Pushpa Subramaniam, and Joint Secretary A. Madhukumar Reddy visited the park on Wednesday. M. Senthil Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of the park, explained the status and facilities at the park.

The officials of the Union Ministry of Textiles also had a meeting with the owners of job-working powerloom units in the district and visited some of the units. The job-working powerloom units have sought subsidy from the Central Government to switch over to roof top solar energy from grid power.

In a meeting here on Tuesday, the members of Southern India Mills’ Association appealed to the officials for required funds so that the arrears under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme are cleared. They also sought interest subvention and export incentives for yarn. The members said that yarn demand is reviving in the domestic market and the export demand will also improve if the incentives are available for yarn.
