Slight improvement in Tirupur

The overall pass percentage in the Plus-Two examinations witnessed a slight improvement from 94.31 per cent registered in 2015 and stood at 95.2 per cent this year.

Official sources said that the district stood at sixth position in the State in terms of pass percentage. Last year, the district stood at tenth spot.

Of the total 22,551 students (10,152 boys and 12,399 girls) who wrote the examination from the district this year, 21,468 persons (9,442 boys and 12,026 girls) passed.

As many as 81 schools, including eight government schools, achieved cent percent pass results this time against 78 schools in 2015.

J. Jaishree, a student of Jai Saradha Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Tirupur, was adjudged the district topper. She scored 1,190 marks out of 1,200.

J. Jose Alphia of Literacy Mission Matriculation HSS at Samalapuram actually scored the highest marks of 1,192 in the district but was not considered for the district topper's position because she chose French as the language paper.

“It is a bit disappointment that students choosing French shall not be considered for ranks even after the department giving the option of writing multiple languages to the students,” said Ms. Alphia.

The second position in the district went to Mahimitha Appusamy of Infant Jesus Matriculation HSS, Tirupur, who scored 1,189 marks.

The third position was shared by V. Sruthi (Kids Club Matriculation HSS, Tirupur), T. Poomani (Vivekananda Vidyalaya Matriculation HSS, K. Chettipalayam) and S.M. Vignesh (Vivekananda Vidyalaya Matriculation HSS, Muthur).

All of them scored 1,188 marks. Deviating from usual career options of engineer or doctor, most of the toppers this time held interesting dreams. None of the top three finishers wanted to be either an engineer or a doctor.

Jaishree, the topper, plans to take up graduation in economics and then attempt Civil Services examination.

Second placed Mahimita fantasises a job in ‘Google’ after a masters degree programme in business administration from a foreign university.
