Shooting spot turned protest ground

A place known as School Mund at 7th Mile mostly famous for film shooting and tourist visit turned into a protest ground after Forest official alleged that the 2.5 acres of land were encroached by tribals called TODAS.

The tribals had erected  a fencing surrounding the land and claimed that land belong solely to them and they have been using it for a long time.
 
The forest Department Officials kept on record that the land is part of the reserve forest in Kurutukuli beat of Udhagai South Range and tribals have been using the land since mid may and they have even removed the board which was put up by the officials and fencing it even after it was decided that the land would not be used by both unless its surveyed.
 
After a heated argument and protest, 40 forest personnel in the rank of forest rangers, foresters, guards, and watchers removed the fence on the instruction of District Forest Officer In charge of the Nilgiris South Division S.N.Tejaswi. The forest department has planned to take strict action if the tribals were found to have encroached the land belonging to the department.
