7 year old Leopard drowned in slush

A 7 year old male leopard drowned in a slush near suburbs of Coonoor. Local villagers allege strongly that the animal could have been saved, if the forest officials responded on time.

The big cat has managed for 15 long hrs to escape itself from the slush. But unfortunately the forest rescue team assigned to attend such contingent situations where deputed in suburbs of Coimbatore to tranquilze and deport a lone tusker with the help of Kumkis.

It wasn't until today morning that another rescue team rushed to the spot with the plan of tranquilising and rescuing the leopard. But this proved to be too late as the poor leopard drowned in the slush unattended.

The villagers state that the leopard was already wounded, while trying to escape from a noose kept for a wild boar at an estate in Chinnavandisolai village, 20 kms from the spot. The locals have seen the cat limping on June 11th and while trying to drink water from a small pool of water, it got stuck in the slush on June 12th.

The death of the wild cat has put the villages and naturalist in deep sympathy & agony.
