Singanallur Water body to get native saplings

The Singanallur lake restoration project was initiated by City Mayor P. Rajkumar along with Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan and representatives from NGOs. Coimbatore Corporation along with NGO'S of the city will carry out a massive campaign of planting trees around the water body.

Unclean water bodies weaken and destroys the biodiversity, the need for restoration and recycling them is undeniable.

Planting native species of trees around the buffer zone will improve water quality by trapping sediment and pollutants, creates habitat for indigenous birds, insects and water creatures and provides shade and assist in soaking up after heavy rainfalls. As a part of the plan initially 2000 Palm trees will be planted along with Vetiver trees (Chrysopogon zizaniaides) and few other native trees will also be planted in the buffer zone.

The NGO's involved in this activity were Green Global Trust, Agni Siragugal, Sixth Sense Foundation, Inner Wheel Club of Coimbatore and Animal Rescuers.
