Madukkarai Maharaj tranquilized and relocated

Madukkarai Maharaj, the elephant which had stationed itself in Madukkarai area has been tranquillised and captured in the early hours of today.

He had injured and killed 3 people during the last one year and due to the public outcry the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests had bought in the kumkis from various camps in Tamilnadu to neutralise the Maharaj. Yesterday a herd of three elephants had destroyed a banana farm creating a heavy loss to the farmer.

The operations began yesterday after a special pooja at the Forest Deparment.

The officials were fairly confident of capturing the lone tusker as he was separated from his two friends. He was captured when he was found roaming close to the military campus at around 2 am. The forest officials shot the tranquilliser dose and the three kumkis were brought in and led the lone tusker in to the truck waiting to transport the semiconscious elephant to Top Slip.

The medicines used for tranquilisation was xylamino 14 ml/per kg, catamin and immobilino, the sources said.

He finally boarded the truck at 9 am and is being transported to Top Slip.
