Indian Railways announces indefinite strike from July 11th


The National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) has called for an indefinite nationwide strike from July 11, 2016. NFIR is demanding a review of the new pension scheme and 7th Pay Commission recommendations, besides filling up of a large number of vacant posts in the railways.

 

SRMU Chief Secretary, Kannaiah had convened a meeting to detailing about the nationwide indefinite strike planned by the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen from July 11th Onwards. Today at the meeting, he reported that the Central Government has not taken into consideration their plea on various issues framed for the welfare of the railway department, like, cancellation of the new pension scheme and restore the old employees scheme, to retain existing allowances and advances. 

All the five round of meetings between the railway union and the central government has turned out to be negative and he claimed that the procrastinating attitude of the government has compelled them to organise an indefinite boycott. 

Close to 13 lakhs employees around the nation will be participating in the strike, the strike will curtail the nation’s entire rail transport leaving a huge monetary loss for the government, he added. Several other Central Government departments like Postal, Defence, Income Tax, Central Customs and Excise, with over 32 lakhs employees have also taken a unanimous decision to go on an indefinite strike from July 11.  

This announcement has created concern to the public, whose travelling plans and regular commuting would get affected deucedly.
