Organs transplanted from brain dead man in Coimbatore

The liver and kidneys of a brain dead man at PSG Hospitals in Coimbatore were transplanted in patients in two other hospital here.

S Dhandapani, who was running a computer centre in Dharapuram, had undergone an open heart surgery in PSG Hospitals almost a year ago and was reportedly fine after the surgery.

At around 11 am on Monday, he began vomiting and suffering from mild speech impairment. When he was rushed to a local hospital, he again vomited while being examined by the doctor.

The local hospital immediately put him into an ambulance to transfer him to PSG. The doctors found that the patient had a tumour in his brain, which led to him suffering a stroke.

The doctors declared him brain dead on Wednesday morning and informed his wife and two daughters. His family agreed to donate his organs.

The Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) allotted the liver to Gem Hospitals and both his kidneys to KG Hospitals.
