TNAU Price Prediction for Groundnut

According to the third advance estimate of Ministry of Agriculture in TamilNadu groundnut was cultivated in an area of 2.17 lakh hectare with the production of 5.43 lakh tonnes. The overall area under groundnut cultivation has decreased during recent times. Due to the delay in monsoons and lack of rainfall, the production of groundnut has considerably reduced, whereas the demand remains unaltered.

Based on a 13 year statistics for groundnut at Tindivanam regulated market, the price forecasting scheme of Centre for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (CARDS), TNAU, has predicted the prices for groundnut. The estimated prices would be between Rs.60-65/ kg at Tindivanam market.

The major groundnut producing areas in the state are Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram, Vellore, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Cuddalore.
