Jaya Announces Many Concessions to Government Staff, Anganwadi Workers, Nurses, Honourary Lecturers

Bringing cheers to the  government employees, anganwadi and noon-meal workers, nurses and honorary lecturers who have been staging agitations for the past many days, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday announced slew of concessions for them and said these measures would give new impetus to the employees to serve the people.  

With regard to one of the key demand of government employees that the contributory insurance scheme has to be withdrawn, the Chief Minister said an experts committee would be formed to examine this demand and the government would take a decision based on the report of this committee.  As far as the demand for revising the pay scales, bringing the employees working for consolidated payment under time scale payment etc., the Chief Minister said Pay Commission to be formed would consider these demands.

Making a suo motu statement under Rule 110 in the State Assembly, the Chief Minister said the family welfare fund for government employees would be hiked from Rs.1.50 lakh to Rs.Three lakh. This measure would cost an additional expenditure of Rs.6.18 crore to the exchequer.

Under the Group Insurance Scheme for teachers, officials, noon-meal workers, workers of local bodies and village panchayats, the insurance claim would be hiked from Rs.1.50 to Rs.Three lakh and this measure would cost an additional expenditure of Rs.20 crore.

The services of those who have been appointed on compassionate grounds would be regularised through a common G.O.  Wherever some exceptions are required, G.Os would be issued after getting necessary permission from the Tamil Nadu Service Commission. 

The pension for noon-meal workers would be hiked from Rs.1,000 to Rs.1,500 and this measure would cost an additional expenditure of rs.51.13 crore.  As many as 39,809 retired Anganwadi workers and 47,064 retired noon-meal workers would be benefitted by this measure.

The monetary benefits given to noon-meal workers would be hiked from Rs.50,000 to Rs.60,000. For the cooks and cooking assistants, the monetary benefit would be hiked from Rs.20,000 to Rs.25,000. The monthly remuneration for honourary lecturers working with the government arts and science colleges would be hiked from Rs.10,000 to Rs.15,000.
