CPI-M seeks CBI inquiry into Muthukumaraswamy’s suicide

The CPI-M’s Tamil Nadu secretary, G. Ramakrishnan today demanded a CBI probe into the suicide of engineer Muthukumarasamy. The former state minister Agri Krishnamoorthy was an accused in the case, but was acquitted recently.

Ramakrishnan informed the reporters that even before the CB-CID completed its investigations, there are many who are suspicious about the fairness of the final report. It was therefore better to hand the case over to the CBI, he said.

Pointing out the case of a man who had committed suicide in Manjoor in the Nilgiri district when the photo of his daughter appeared in a local newspaper as a defaulter, Ramakrishnan demanded that the Centre publish the list and photographs of all the corporate houses and businessmen whose loans were written off as part of the Rs.2.11 lakh crore Non-Performing Assets recently.

He also demanded that the Centre must rework the GAIL pipeline plans. Laying it through the agriculture fields in seven districts of the state was dangerous and would also drastically affect the fertility of thousands of acres, he said.
